This calculator checks and calculates digits. If you need a full ISBN-10 to ISBN-13 conversion workflow, confirm the publisher record before using the result on a barcode.
ISBN-10 uses a modulo 11 formula, which can produce a remainder of 10. Since that does not fit in a single digit, the letter X is used to represent 10. It is not an error.
Drop the ISBN-10 check digit, add the prefix 978 to the front of the remaining 9 digits, then calculate a new check digit using the ISBN-13 (modulo 10) formula. ISBN-13 numbers starting with 979 do not have an ISBN-10 equivalent.
