When to use a Spotify QR code

Spotify already has its own code style, but a normal QR code is easier for every phone camera to understand. Use it when you want the scan to work outside the Spotify app too.

Point to the right audio

Spotify codes are useful when the scan has a clear listening promise.

  • Choose a track, album, podcast or playlist link.
  • Open it on a phone without assuming the app is installed.
  • Keep the printed label close to the title people expect.

For events, test the link before doors open.

Create a Spotify QR code

  1. Choose the audio destination people should hear first: track, album, playlist, artist, show or podcast episode.
  2. Paste the Spotify URL and open it on a phone to confirm it points to the exact audio destination.
  3. Generate the QR code and add a clear prompt such as 'Listen now' or 'Open the playlist'.
  4. If the code is headed for posters, cards, packaging or merch inserts, take the SVG so it scales cleanly.
  5. Scan the finished artwork and check the experience with and without the Spotify app installed.

Where Spotify QR codes work

  • Artist cards
  • Podcast flyers
  • Playlist posters

Spotify link checks

  • Use a playlist link for events and moods, a track link for singles and an artist link for broad promotion.
  • A normal QR code is useful because phone cameras can read it without needing Spotify's in-app scanner.
  • If the QR code is on physical merch, choose a destination you expect to keep public.

Spotify QR mistakes to avoid

  • Linking to a playlist that may be renamed, deleted or made private.
  • Using a tiny QR code on textured merch or glossy posters without a print test.
  • Forgetting to include text that tells people whether they are opening a song, playlist or podcast.

Spotify QR code questions

Is this the same as a Spotify Code?

No. This creates a standard QR code that opens a Spotify URL. Standard QR codes are readable by normal phone cameras.

Can I link to a podcast episode?

Yes. Paste the episode, show, playlist, album, track or artist URL.

Will it work without the Spotify app?

The link can open in a browser when the app is not installed, but the exact playback experience depends on Spotify and the user's account.

Should I use a playlist or a track link?

Use a track link when one song is the point. Use a playlist for events, moods, venues, radio shows or campaigns where the list may evolve.

Can I put this on merch?

Yes, but test the QR code at the final print size and choose an audio link you expect to keep public for the life of the merch.

What is the difference between a Spotify Code and a QR code?

A Spotify Code is a proprietary barcode that only works with the Spotify app camera. A standard QR code works with any phone camera, which makes it more practical for print, posters and packaging.

Can I link to an Apple Music or YouTube Music track instead?

This tool generates a QR code for any URL, so you can paste any music link. But if you want to promote Spotify, use the Spotify share link for the best experience.

Will the playlist keep working if I rename it?

Yes. Spotify playlists keep the same internal link even if you change the name. The QR code will still work as long as the playlist is public and not deleted.
